I would highly recommend staying just up the road in Venosc. Much quieter and more beautiful than Bourg. Plus the short ride to the bottom of the Alpe d'Huez is a perfect warm up. It is also on the road to La Berarde, which is a lesser known ride, but a must do if you visit the region. Its a dead end road into the Ecrins National Park. It's a stunning ride with with very little traffic. In Venosc (and Le Bourg d'Arud) there are a couple of campsites, which both have cabins to rent, plus cheap rental properties as well as a handful of specialist cycling accommodations.
