If you like Alpine descents, and you're in the area, it's well worth visiting the Col de Rousset, about half way between Alpe d'Huez and Mont Ventoux, at the south of the Vercors plateau. It's about an hour up and 25 minutes down, and there's nothing to scare anyone (nothing over 10%, and mostly around 5%). The views are stunning. If you're around there in August, I might just see you.

Have you done the descent off the plateau that comes out at the top of the Col de Rousset?

I have just looked at the map and this descent is ominously close to a town called DIE......:0)

I've been up it once and down it twice. The climb to the top from the Vercors plateau was tough too on a loaded tourer and 30 degree temps. There was a welcome café near the summit serving cold, freshly squeezed lemon juice.
I love the other world feeling on the plateau too - like Shangri-La!
