Time for a refurb. How does copper hammerite and North Road bars grab you? Sort of a lazy natured utility machine with some off road leanings?

No, no, no! In the 90s they made mountain bikes, 4130 cromo framed hobs in the main, but some alloy ones too. They also did some interesting elevated stay bikes that are now quite collectable. However, this is a fairly conventional cromo model.

No neon paint job - my mate's was rather loud. My Diamond Back was a marbled grey - it's been blue for 20 years.

Mine is a wine red metallic, but very beaten and battered. Well, the forks are now Hammerite copper!

I did a bike up in copper hammerite for a friend over Christmas. TBH I wasn't completely happy with the colour - didn't have any of the nice reddish tones that I was hoping for and looked more like metallic beige.

Maybe rustoleum or another brand do a nicer copper colour, maybe worth checking.

Other than that, sounds like an awesome project, looking forward to the pics!

I think anything we made in metalwork at school was painted with Hammerite - awesome stuff.

North Road bars - absolutely. Copper Hammerite grabs me in places I'd rather not be grabbed, TBH. Not a huge Hammerite fan, unless it's the smooth stuff and the modern tree-hugger formulation is rubbish, IMHO, and nowhere near as durable as the proper old-school version with all the fluffy bunny killing solvents in it.

Oh ye of little faith!

I've got to finish stripping the rest of the bike, then there's a lot of rubbing down to be done. The forks were a quick win.

It'll be a slow burner of a project. I'm s not feeling well, and I've a bass guitar rebuild vying for my affection.

I have used bronze hammerite for many years and love it. Masks a lot of mistakes and looks cool.
