Many people aren't mounting cameras on their helmets now, not everyone wears one after all.
I like to say video camera cyclists.

My helmet camera was mounted on my front reflector bracket (before it fell off the lanyard)... But for simplicity it's a helmet camera

Just a question regarding helmet, or even head mounted, cameras. Exactly how safe are they in an accident where your head takes a knock? I can't imagine a protruding bullet cam zip tied to my top vent will be beneficial, I imagine a jerking movement such as if you hit a kerb off-centre and your head rolls to one side possibly putting strain on the neck. Hope I am being clear.

I recently hit the ground very hard with my helmet and camera on. And like you i previously questioned what would happen.
The contourHD camera ripped out from the mount and flew down the road. There was no damage to that part of the helmet.

How ever what happens if you ziptie a camera to a helmet? Will it pop out so easy? Did contour develop their helmet mount to act like this so in a crash the camera doesn't cause more damage?

I see the ContourHD mount is very different to the way I mount my cam. It looks to attach to the side whereas mine is affixed to the top vent, I would think it wouldn't pull off as easily there and would be more likely to stay put.

Here is a pic of what my setup is like, not my pic but I have exactly the same helmet and camera:

The contourHD mounts in a similar way to the helmet. Except it has a specific mount. My camera was on the top of my helmet much like yours was when i hit the ground.

Good for twenty minutes recording. Just awaiting the chance to try a pair
A colleague bought her boyfriend a pair of those for their upcoming ski-ing holiday, she's tested them out while jogging & the pics are pretty good

I currently use the "bike view", by mounting my cam on the bars, but I often think "If only I had a helmet cam" to capture that "1st person" view on camera.

Its surprising how much we look around while we are cycling. A straight ahead view doesnt always capture enough.

Nope. I did start out with an eBay clone, which soon exhibited the dying battery syndrome, plus the interminable date stamp issue, which was driving me to distraction.

I replaced it with a 'proper' one from Maplins which was on offer for £39.99 at the time. Metal, as opposed to plastic body and better switches.

Now records for exactly 30 mins, which is great for a 40-45 minute commute. T'would be nice to shave off 15 mins but I think that is a tad ambitious.
