Having wasted hours trying to transfer music from the computer to a MP3 player using Media Player I have given up.

Can anyone recommend freeware that will do the job without needing a degree in geek. Will CDex do it?

Thanks for any advice that doesn't include using WMP!

Are the music files already on your computer in MP3 format, or are they on a CD/other format?

If it's a standard MP3 player, nothing fancy like an iPod or possibly a Walkman, you may be able to just 'drag and drop' the MP3 files on to the MP3 using Windows Explorer.

If the MP3 player shows up in 'My Computer' (or just 'Computer depending on your version of Windows) when plugged in, then you should be able to open it up and navigate to the folder named something along the lines of 'Music' or 'MP3' and just copy and paste the MP3 files from your computer straight on to the MP3 player.

As matt said.

Software is there to make you dependent on them.
That might be fine if all of them did not suck too.

Drag and drop is the norm. (known as copy and paste to some)

My wife is now sitting dragging and dropping. That's the way I normally do it but she prefers software. She wants a lot of tracks from a lot of albums so it is a bit long winded having to find each track but she'll get there in the end. She is dragging into a new folder on the desktop and can dump the lot onto the MP3 player at the end. A lot of the files are WMA files, not MP3. The player will play them but I believe she will get more music on as MP3.

UPDATE:

I have now converted my wife to drag and drop and she even admits it's less bother than Media Player. Also I have converted all her music files to MP3 so there is no trouble with her portable MP3 player. All her original WMA music tracks are untouched and the MP3 tracks are in a different folder.

I use Media Player for my CD mp3 making.
It is not meant to be the best but itdoes an ok job.

Obviously I then just drag and drop to my mp3 player, about twice a month maximum.
