I've successfully persuaded my husband that he needs a dedicated road bike and he's keen on that one as it takes mudguards and pannier racks.

What other bikes could he consider that would also take panniers and mudguards that he can take for a test ride in a shop? This will be his first road bike so he needs to try a few I think. Also he'll be buying it though cyclescheme so it needs to be £1000 or less.

Dolan prefissio?
Some sort of touring bike? Finding a 'road' bike with pannier mounting points is quite tough

Go see what Evans have, they are about the best out there for range and no obligation test rides. Not sure I would buy a bike from them though if a local independent had the same model

Whats wrong with a Trek Domane 2.0? Mind you I purchased a new one four weeks ago and have only managed 10 miles on it so far as I have been busy doing other things and using my other bike on my 20 mile commute along the canal towpath.

There's nothing wrong with it, but I think it's better to try a few different bikes if you can so you definitely pick one that's right for you.
