Hi everyone - I am new to this site so apologies if this has already been asked
Although I have spent hours searching internet for answer

I am wanting to cycle from Altrinhcam to Manchester City Centre but not along any main roads and was wondering if anyone has managed this

I know I can get on the path along bridgewater canal at side of Halfords in Broad heath but will this path take me all the way to Castlefiled or city centre?

I have looked at several websites one in which it said there was fencing put up along the route as they were making some improvements
So was wondering if anyone has done this route recently and if so if it is possible and what the conditions are like and how long it takes approx

Many thanks in advance

Bump.

Does anyone know if the part of the Bridgewater Canal from Stretford to Castlefield is doable on road tyres?

many thanks!

Hi

yes it is doable however depends on the weather as can be quite muddy in parts
The path does get very narrow and the Geese are ruthless and try and attack you though so make sure you can swim:smile:

I tried ringing my bell and everything hoping to scare them but they did not bother apparently you are supposed to hiss back at them and then they go away lol

I really enjoyed it but cause of the time I leave it was a little deserted towards the end so I decided to lock my bike up at stretford and then jump on tram for last 10 minutes

That was until I came off my bike just over 4 weeks ag0 - not been able to ride it since and seat and mud flaps got stolen from it whilst i was being taken to hospital lol

I live much further out on the Bridgwater but use roads, they're not all that bad. Bridgwater I believe is mostly got harcore on now though.

Hi first put up left hand across face.
As goose lifts of water, turn body to right.
When goose is within 2 feet of your head.
Give sharp karate blow to side of the goose’s neck.
Goose now upside down in water.
Shout out “goose down” and pedal like hell.

If you go on www.cyclegm.org there's a map showing all the cycle paths/routes/quiet roads.

http://www.cyclegm.org/maps_guides/maps_index.aspx

Also you can order paper cycle route maps for all the GM districts.

Shame the cycle paths in Greater Manchester are mostly bollocks.

Umm I wouldn't say that for all of the cyclepaths.

OK some on road cycle lanes are a complete waste of time (e.g. A6 in Longsight at the junction with Plymouth Grove - not even 50cm wide!), but it's handy to have something that shows you where all the traffic free routes are (Fallowfield loop) and how to get to and from.
