I love how this has turned into a thread about 'foreign films' as if they are somehow all related! French cinema at least has some coherence - you can identify some clear characteristics of French cinema, movements and so on. But English-speaking people (and this goes all the way from the average moviegoer to the ridiculously patronising Oscar for best foreign language film) do have this wonderful tendency to group together anything not in English - which doesn't make much sense. No offence intended, it's just interesting. Carry on...
I just watched this film for the first time last night. It is a superb film and Audrey Tautou is simply stunning. Thanks for posting this thread Globalti as I would never of bothered with it otherwise. Romantic comedies made by Hollywood make me want to die, they are probably the genre of film that I dislike the most, the French seem to do it so much better if Amelie is anything to go by. I need to check out more foriegn films as I lost interest in the vast majority of US films a few years ago. Going to try Jamon Jamon tonight for a bit of spanish comedy![]()

Watch Pedro Almoldovar's stuff if you want your eyes to light up C.H.![]()
Glad you liked it. I've just bought the piano music for my sister to play. If you want a really superb film (two actually) watch Jean de Florette then Manon des Sources. Once you've watched the first you'll be all agog to watch the second to see what happens. Have tissues ready for the final ending.
I'd also recommend Subway with Christophe Lambert and the lovely Isabelle Adjani, a great thriller set in the Paris metro.
