Maybe it depends how sociable the "off campus" accomodation is, and also how far from campus?

If you're just living over the road, can benefit fromall the facilities/activities, but have the freedom of your own landlord, then why not?

Conversely, if its going to be a half hour walk, you're maybe going to miss out.

Some people off campus in our crowd didn't mix, some did, but them some who sayed on campus didn't make it past the end of the first term either!

I _really_ agree about sharing a flat with a good mate - can be the quickest way to break a friendship!

As for holidays, yes you may have to pay for 52 weeks per year, but do you want to be moving back home in the summer, shifting all your kit out etc?
People tend to grow up really fast when away from home, coming home again (even just for the holidays) can feel very constricting for everyone!
