Top man. A most sensible decision. The little turd might think he's won but it just isn't worth dropping to his level. Who knows, with a bit of luck, he may even realise what an anal prat he's been and apologise!!

One of my locks is left 365 days a year on one of the sheffield stands, and I've only ever been beaten to the stand once, when I was on half a day. Things get a bit busy mid September to late October, but then our student's have all either given up cycling, or are on placement. Most staff bring their bikes inside their office - I'll carry my roadie up stairs, but not the commuter MTB........

I leave a cheapo Lidl lock attached to one of the many Sheffield stands in the car-park at work. I did it when I got the road bike, as I wasn't attaching a lock to the nice bike just for work: the car-park is secure, card-access and covered my constantly-monitored CCTV so unlikely to require a big, heavy lock. The lock really only prevents anyone knocking the bike over, or a joker moving it to another spot for a laugh.

Since I'm in at around 6.30am every Tues to Friday, I'm always first in so I'm not depriving anyone of their 'space' by leaving my lock there - that stand has been 'mine' for the last two-and-a-half years

But you're right, HlaB - it's sometimes not worth getting into petty arguments with tw@ts like the one at your work. Your solutions sounds like a good idea whilst you ** ahem ** dream up some amusing way of getting your own back on him !

Hmmm, will have to give this some thought. ;-)

Do you carry a secondary lock with you? Only asking as I've heard that some determined bike thieves sabotage locks that are left with the hope of finding an unlocked bike the next day. (not sure if this is urban myth though, anyone seen any reports of it actually happening?)

What is selfish is when people leave an old bike they can't be bothered to ride locked up in the bike shed, blocking a space which could be used by someone who rides everyday.... You ride daily year round, your entitled to the space...

Theres a tactic used in Cambridge, especially at the railway station, where someone leaves a beaten up old bike there day in, day out, and locks the proper bike to that one. Thus they save themselves a locking space by having a crap old bike left out all year.
