The plan was good: Get-up early, blatt to Sarf Lunnun to extract MIL and bring her back to Abbers for the Christmas period.

Except left a bit later than planned at 9am, M40 OK, but around Heathrow was monster snow, I should have turned back I guess but pushed-on in the hope it would ease just enough. But now I'm stuck in Morden!

We've food, telly, plenty to drink and Mrs FF's cousin Anjelica is staying here too, so we could have a party!
Problem is there's much to do back home.

Ho-hum, Dunkirk spirit required I guess!
Anyone else stuck where they shouldn't be?

Works do tonight, and many are travelling from our sister plants in London and Manchester to Leicester... or perhaps they're not, there could be quite a few vol-au-vents left over.

FF we'll dispatch a dog sled to get you.

Thanks for the sled offer, could you despatch it to rescue my daughter at Waitrose Abingdon?
Mrs FF says the snow is too deep for the little C1 now and daughter has innapropriate footwear for walking and suffers badly from chilblains. Hoping her boyfriend will come to the rescue, sweet though he is he's not the Bear Grhyls type!

Other daughter has had to cancel her house-party tonight (phew, my home will survive intact a bit longer), Mrs FF's Carol Concert has been cancelled. The lad's 2 performances in Cinderalla in Oxford are stil going ahead.

Snow fun eh?

Sounds a very tempting offer, have too see how the land lies with MIL. We may yet make a break for home! Where were you thinking of going out of interest?

well the snow has meant that we're no longer going to my inlaws for Sunday dinner tomorrow, there's a shame!!!

But I am puzzled, internet, newspapers and television all full of dire weather predictions and so many travel warnings that they almost outweigh the snow. I had a conversation yesterday with my Mum and again this morning:-

conversation 1 - she's planning on driving 20 miles to her sisters for an evening out, staying overnight and travelling back today. Dismissed my suggestions that it may be unwise as she could get stranded

conversation 2 - now that she is stranded I was saying that she may not be able to get home for a couple of days. Cue indignation and avowal that she has to make it home tomorrow...we'll see.

Unfortunately she's 74, a rubbish driver at the best of times and has no experience of driving in snow and ice other than some hairy/scary incidents. She isn't active fit and would probably struggle to walk a mile in benign conditions. She's also quite capable of going ahead anyway, getting herself stranded and requiring assitance from me, and probably emergency services as well.

She wouldn't have turned back near Heathrow either

some dreadful sink of iniquity or other. Within a very short distance of the Tube - I'm in Islington doing Big Stuff to a building, so I'll be coming down the Northern Line when I come....

Stupidly, I checked the forecast late last night and the window of opportunity looked OK, but I should have checked again this morning

Things are looking better though and I think we may make a decision to go' at 3-ish if news from Oxford is promising.

Cheers! The Bedford was a fave haunt!

I think it'll be unlikely now as we may make a break for it, failing that I think MIL would prefer if we stayed-in with her which I guess is fair enough. Appreciate the offer, would love to meet-up for a pint sometime. I have an FNRttC on my agenda for this year, so I'll catch you there.

Have a good pint or several.

It wasn't cousin Anjelica who got tied in with all the ironing and beach volleyball stuff on C+ was it?

I remember that, but it wasn't me! Wasn't she Brazillian or something....

Anjelica is half Texan with the looks and demeanour of a young Jerry Hall.
