I have just noticed that I have made over 2,000 posts to the forum. In fact, this is post number 2,009 and that matches the current year. This will never happen again, unless I start posting just once a year from now on, with my next post not due until 2010! Somehow, I can't see me sticking to that lazy schedule... :becool:

It would be a shame to waste this momentous post, so I'll take the opportunity to extend a cordial invitation to anybody who fancies a hilly 100 km ride taking in parts of West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Lancashire tomorrow (Sunday, 30th August) to nip over to my Barlick Bash thread and sign up!

Nearly rang your mobile today Colin to see if I could buy you a pint.

I was on the train through your part of the world, interesting to see it from that viewpoint as I've only ever seen it from two wheels before.

Still not doing your ride though :becool:

That would have been nice, but I'm having a long break from beer drinking! I've been struggling to get weight off while drinking regularly. I can maintain a steady weight as long as I'm exercising but it is hard to drink a lot of pints and lose weight.

I could have had a coffee or an OJ though...

I had some good news yesterday - I've managed to sell my first Deda Dog Fang (see my signature line). Somebody in the USA bought one and I got myself a juicy fat 65 cent commission - yay! I only need to do that about another 3,000,000 times and I'll be able to retire!

After next week only another 2,999,999 to go. One of those will come in handy for the bike with the missing front mech.

I hardly ever click on links in sigs so your post was a timely one as a friend would like to buy the bike in question and if this solves the very occasional chain loss that happens then I'd be happier selling it.

if you think about it, it is bound to happen to everybody at some point. As you always start off with a post count less than the year, but it always goes up faster - so they are bound to cross some time, so therefore the point at which they cross there is going to be a time when they are the same.

Ooh, keep the orders coming - the Bahamas beckon!

The Dog Fang on my triple-chainset-equipped Basso has been very handy for those hilly "I can make it on the middle ring, yes I can, yes I can, oops - no I can't!" moments where I have to throw the chain down onto the granny ring in a hurry.

The one on my Cannondale (which has a double chainset) is just for insurance because I very rarely dropped the chain on that.

I found the one on my MTB much harder to get in the right position because of the smaller size of the chainrings but it seems to be doing the trick now.

Why's it called the Barlick Bash anyway?
The original ride was going to go up through Malham, wander about all over the place, then come back to Hebden Bridge so I toyed with the idea of calling it 'The Malham Meander'. I decided that 161 km with over 3,000 m of stiff climbing was a bit much for a forum ride so I chopped the route down to 100 km by cutting across from Gargrave along the route of the Roman Road on the northern fringes of Barnoldswick, which the locals insist on pronouncing as 'Barlick'. I thought the 'Barlick Bash' had a nice ring to it!

Oh, I so hate that advert! I don't about 'eSure' more like 'damn sure' - as in "I'll make damn sure that I never buy insurance off a company that is responsible for those bloody Michael Winner ads"! ;)

Jeeeeeeeezuz - I've just found this eSure ad on speed - that's more like it!
