have just finished doing up my old bike for my brother. (well, i got a new bike so i thought i'd be nice and give my "winter bike" to my brother as he's struggling for cash and his old car eats petrol and he can kill two birds with one stone with a bike ... get fit and save dollars)

Anyway, it now has:

- new Marathon Plus tyres (yes.. you lot are right... they are a bugger to get on!)
- brand new inners
- new brake blocks
- new pedals (he hasn't got proper shoes, so they are to tide him over til he gets some)
- new saddle bag
- new mudguards
- new pump
- new tyre levers (now a bit bent, thanks to the Marathons! oops LOL)
- new bottle cage and new bottle

and....

- shiny new yellow bar tape which has made her look totally different!

I'm seriously p'd off i never bothered to spruce her up before. It looks fab and now i think she doesn't mind going to a new home (i'm sure she was p'd off with me for giving her away  ) but now i don't want to give her away because she looks so much better

he better appreciate it coz it's cost me well over £100 for the stuff. and i've still got to go and get him a back light and a decent lock.

Bar tape maketh the bike. Well, obviously, it doesn't, but it's the bit you put your hands on, and it makes a big difference to how you feel about the thing.

Is the yellow tape cleanable?

Just changed the bar tape on both my road bikes, on one that I've just done 8000+ miles on, the old stuff stunk like a well worn pair of socks, probably even worse.

hope so! it's Easton bar tape

here is the bike spruced up with the "Tron" wheels

Gave my brother the bike today. think he liked it, he whizzed round the block enough times. bought him a good lock too, because he works in a hospital and will have to lock it up there (although he will lock it inside away from visitors eyes) and it's only an old bike but it's my lovely bike and i want it to stay in the family.

and i gave him his bent tyre levers
