There's nothing wrong with his taste though........if anyone can spot a perfect pie, it's Vernon. I know who's judgement I trust in all pie-related matters.

Liking Morrisons own brand cheapo pork pies indicates something very wrong with his taste.

OMG...

Dalmatian Fig Jam, Apple, Crostini

How do you make jam out of a dog?

A man goes to a pet shop and buys a hamster, takes it home and lets it settle in. The next day he wakes up and the hamster is dead! He returns to the pet shop and tells the manager what has happened. The pet shop manager says "go home and boil the hamster in sugar and water because it will make a lovely jam". The man does this and then tastes the jam, it is so awful that he throws it out of the window. The next morning the man looks out of the window and there are daffodils growing everywhere he threw the jam. He returns to the pet shop and says to the manager "I made the jam and it tasted awful so I threw it in the garden, this morning there are daffodils growing in the garden everywhere I threw the jam!" The pet shop manager says "Don't be so silly, Sir, everyone knows........................

Over the years I've heard the term "grits". I've just Googled and it is porridge or gruel really. Just based on maize not oats. Very basic fare
Where, in the Northern bit of the U.S. you would have oatmeal for breakfast, in the south you would have grits. I got used to them at University, served with side meat. Side meat is bacon that is cured, but not brined. Standard breakfast south of say, Saint Louis, Missouri, along with eggs or biscuits and gravy. Gravy can either be sausage gravy, or red-eye gravy, made from ham fat and black coffee. Eggs also.

I thought grits was a polenta like substance. I have a bag of it in the kitchen unopened since a pal, who lives in NC, gave it to me last year. I suppose I ought to try it.

I only know what they looked like cooked, we were in an out of the way diner in rural Texas, near the Big Bend National Park, at the time. I went for huevos rancheros myself.
