Ancient monuments?

I used to spend a lot of time and effort visiting stone circles and barrows and that. But not so much now. I was up in SW Scotland last week and took the opportunity to visit Cairn Holy just off the A75. What a place!
I took this murky snap:

But my daughter Adrien took this stunning picture :

A rainbow appeared as we walked up to it, so it was quite a magical moment.

Does anyone else fancy themselves as a prehistoric explorer?

I've never actively gone looking for ancient monuments or anything like that but do enjoy coming across stone circles etc.

Yes. Especially when the stones are not prettified, repaired, and fenced off (like lkley Moor).

Across the river, on the top of Askwith Moor. Stunning views across the Washburn valley - Snowden Carr. Carved stones, visible remains of an Iron Age settlement, a stone circle hidden in the heather. Quite magical. I like wee forgotten corners like this

Can't find my photos, but a few years ago I was at Avebury and was fascinated by the stone circle there. And, apparently, it's older than Stonehenge.

Was always keen on visiting Stonehenge and Avebury when i was a kid, probably after watching Quatermass and Children of the Stones... headed off to Stonehenge for the first time as a 19 year old, but seemingly every lamp post within 15 miles of Stonehenge had a notice from the police stating that 'if you're a certain type of person and appear to be heading towards Stonehenge, you are likely to be stopped, searched and turned back... maybe even arrested'... so I stayed away from Stonehenge that year and went to Avebury instead. Great place. I camped in some woodland on Windmill hill, famed for its burial mounds, and the next day, had a nosey at Silbury Hill. I did eventually get to see Stonehenge many years later, and it's huge wire fence and exclusion zone... still impressive though. I also love Castlerigg up near Keswick in t'Lakes... and the Devils Arrows are three very impressive monoliths somewhere up near the ripon/harrogate area. Then there's the little known, little stoned and relatively local Casterton Stone Circle....

And about 20 miles from Avebury is the Uffington White Horse.

With its sleek curves and design it looks quite modern, but in fact it's dated to about 1,000-700 years BC.
