It's perfectly possible to live in a democratic monarchy and be nauseated by the national anthem. Those who think the stupid song is the be-all-and-end-all of our "great" history, and bleat on about our tradition, clearly forget that it has only been the national anthem for a couple of hundred years, and that the various royal families who have reigned over England and then Britain can trace their roots back rather further than that. Monarchy would no more come to end with a decent national anthem than it would if the corvids in the Tower of London all dropped dead tomorrow.

My view is that an anthem should be for the people & not for & about the Monarchy.

If you trace back any Monarchs family history you will find that somewhere at some point they led a vicious & ruthless army to murder rape & pillage, then galantly proclaim at the top of some hill probably, this is my land & now I am your King (or some other drivel).

Take some tips from the Portuguese. I've loved their anthem ever since I saw them give it some at the RWC2007.
