I bet in those days the players had Christmas Day off and some of the teams would have been playing on hangovers. Maybe that accounts for the odd scores.

Weren't the Boxing day fixtures the reverse of the Christmas day fixtures? They often swung wildly so you'd get Leicester 5 Villa 0 on Christmas day and then Villa 7 Leicester 2 the following day.
