On Saturday I volunteered to marshall at our clubs open 10.
So it only seemed the right thing was to wear my club kit. However, my prefered club bib shorts were in the wash, or so I thought. But a quick look in the washing machine and revealed my shorts which were wet, and after a quick sniff test, I concluded that they must have been washed and Lucy hadnt had time to put the washing out to dry. The wife had gone out so unable to double check?
As I only had 1/2hr before I went out, and my shorts were still soaking wet, I dropped them in the tumble dryer for 1/2hr. Time to go, so on with the shorts, and out the door, so far so good.
Rode down to the A46 island at Alcester, just 11 miles away and spent the next 2 1/2 hours marshalling. But during that time I was aware of a rather strange sensation on my right buttock which I couldnt quite understand why. Every time I moved it seemed that my shorts were sticking to my buttocks?
Anyway, marshalling duties completed and time to ride home. Jump on bike and I cannot sit down its to painful??? Stop and readjust my shorts and assume that its the crease in my base layer that has caused the problem?
Start of again and still not able to sit down? Finally get back home and I am in proper pain and severe discomfort on my right buttock?
The wife is home and when I get back and without further ado I drop my shorts and get her to investigate, nice...... :-(
With a gasp of horror it turns out I have a rather large skin blister on my right buttock, 4" long and about 3/4" wide that is weeping hence why my shorts were sticking to me, so how the hell has that happened?
In analysing the events prior to me going out, it appears that my shorts, that I had assumed were washed, were in fact NOT washed. MrsW had presoaked them and then poured a cap full of neat washing detergent on the chamious ready for washing when she returned home later. Hence why they were wet and they smelt like they had been washed.
As a result, I had been sat/stood with neat Ariel washing detergent pressing directly against my skin for around four hours and what I first thought was a common rub type blister is in fact a pretty nasty chemical burn blister!!!
Now I cannot sit down even on the settee let alone on a bike saddle FFS!!
EDIT
I managed to get out on my bike today, by utilizing a double panty liner and some masking tape. Only to discover that I now have a rash from the flipping masking tape....doh!!
Photographic evidence is available upon request
