Twice now, my HSBC banking app has refused to load, saying my phone is in developer mode.

A bit long winded, but I was able to turn the developer mode off and the banking app worked.

I suspect my frequent use of the apps for wordle, octordle, or Utube etc must have run something that turned developer mode on.

Has anybody else experienced this?

My m&S banking app did not detect this, so there could be lots of us out there that have slipped into developer mode. Might be worth checking and turning the mode off.

Google tells you how to turn it off.

My Android 13 (Xperia X10) is in Dev Mode. HSBC & other similar apps work with no issues.
I think HSBC was installed before Dev Mode was invoked, though, if that makes any difference.

I always activate developer mode, it enables me to activate "never sleep while charging" which I find handy whilst streaming Spotify.
It has never stopped anything working but I don't have HSBC.

My Android phone and tablet are always in developer mode because I am a (casual) Android developer. I haven't experienced any apps complaining about that, but obviously some (such as @Sharky's HSBC app) do.

It is actually a bit surprising that more apps don't complain! Developer mode allows things to be done which could pose a security threat to the device.

I started having problems when I had to download the latest HSBC app. I also have the M&S app and I believe the HSBC host the M&S banking functions. I haven't had a problem yet with the M&S app. It is probably just a matter of time before the M&S app is brought in line with the HSBC one.

Developer mode is set manually. It can’t occur without the user consent.

I never set the developer mode on in the first place and when the HSBC failed to load, I worked out how to turn it off and then the app worked. When the app failed for the second time, I drilled down to the developer setting again and it had been turned on again and not knowingly by myself, so is a mystery.
