I have too many ideas.

To be fair, most of them disappear long before I actually do anything about them, but occasionally one gets through, and here’s one that popped up this week. Those in the know will tell you it’s an Auto-Union 1000; these were built in Germany between 1958-65, so it has no place in Ascension Island in 1937…

On top of that, I went and painted it like a German police car, because once again, I’d had an idea.

In the real world, Germany is a fairly young country: what is now Germany was a collection of small to tiny and often hostile states until 1871, when they came together under a Prussian dominated federation.

So far, so bonkers: my version of history says that in 1916, Woodrow Wilson’s peace attempts succeeded, ending WWI. In Germany, this created a sovereignty movement to separate from Prussia (it probably began with Bavaria; these things usually do). This grew until many of the old states were declaring independence, making alliances and generally making rude gestures towards Prussia, which was blamed for the war.

To avoid war, but in because the states didn’t trust each other, they formed a looser confederation of sovereign states, based on the old “German Confederation“. I’m still working out the details, but the basic idea is a new story arc at some point in the distant future, based on one of these states, in the same era as the Ascension arc, and maybe some of the same characters.

I’m not sure what form that will take, and as it will require some different architecture it’s a long term project, but at least I now have a police car, ready for the inevitable chases…
