Jolly good - well done

12 months of me getting back into cycle commuting too. Saving £250 per month in fuel - done 4600 miles in the last 12 months, 2.5 stone lighter, but spent loads on the three bikes (despite already having them)..... ah well. Only 2000 miles in the car...none of those commuting - just local and a few runs over to North Wales.

Good innit !!!

Congratulations CofG!
Frightening but true I remember your first post, though re-reading it the vision I had of someone cycling with socks on their hands while wearing nothing but Speedos isn't quite what you wrote.

I still cycle in on my hybrid in normal shorts as it has a comfie seat, it's only 14 miles each way and I don't have to worry about throwing it around. The 2nd bike is a spare in case the hybrid is knackered; for longer rides and weekend riding.

I've been re-reading that Thread on ACF and there were two main pieces of advice given:

1. Cycle Fast
2: Buy a Fixed

V Good work, C of G.

I must be one of the few forumites to have actually seen the now svelte C of G on his commute and I can confirm he is jolly decent bloke...

My top advice would not be to buy a fixie or cycle fast - but ride defensively.

Nice one mate, you've certainly hit the first year in a big way!

Well

Famous last words

Im about to go on leave for two weeks, down in errrrrrr Sunny (ahem) cornwall.

On my return, I need to get back into cycling again. I do miss it, but despite having cycled most of May and early June, before Ifell on both technical and illness issues.

So I am impressed by your anniversary, well doen

The great thing about this, of course, is that I save £1,700 pa, don't get stressed out by the cattle-train commute and can consume two vindaloos, copious beer and two bottles of red over the course of a weekend without putting on the pounds.

So, even allowing for maintenance, servicing, lights locks bell pump etc you are still £1000 in credit?

Everyone knows you need at the very least a hardtail, plus tourer.

Plus road bike.

Plus fixie.

Ah, recumbents look cool...
