Hi all,

I've been reading CycleChat forums for a while now in an attempt to make a decision about what bike to buy. Have narrowed it down to the following three but really not experienced enough to know whether the minor differences between the three will make. My main cycling is commuting to work but adds up to around 100 miles a week. Also enjoy doing longer rides (approx 3 hours) at the weekends. Been looking at SRAM as have found current Shimano Tiagra hoods to be too large for my hands!

My choices are:

Any advice or insight welcomed!

Thanks

If you are going to be doing a lot of commuting on the bike, are you sure you wouldn't like to be able to fit mudguards?

Good point, but I have clip on mudguards on my current bike (Giant Defy 2.5) which do not need mudguard holes. Found these were better than the standard Giant mudguards as the brakes have v little clearance.

I wouldn't rate any of those bikes significantly higher than your current Defy 2.5. If you are determined to spend money, I would upgrade some of the kit on the bike you already have...

The frame size is a little too large for me so looking for a more comfortable ride rather than there being anything wrong with the bikes performance.

Are you sure the SRAM hoods are smaller than Tiagra - I have both and never noticed any discernible difference? Interesting if there is. To be fair though, I use the handlebar brakes on the Tiagra bike

Have you come across any other hoods that seem smaller? Currently have to hang off my thumbs the whole time to reach the brakes which is not ideal for cycling through heavy traffic!

I've got the Ribble, but with Apex instead of Rival. Love it, but it is my first road bike so I have little to compare it to. Had no issues using Ribble either, they've been great for the bike and for aftermarket bits and bobs. I've got Crud Road Race IIs fitted, a bit of a squeeze but managed it.
