Pretty dumb question here but I can't find the serial number on my Trusty Viscount of around 1973/4 vintage bought new in Cheltenham. It definitely has the fork of death but being quite early is probably the drop forged one made in the UK. I was unaware of the recall by Yamaha. Can anyone assist with suggesting where I can start to scrape away the grime to reveal a model and/or serial number?

Started young, and still going.

Barnet,
The serial number could be on the steerer tube, or stamped on the inside of the fork.
This article may be of some use.

We've just inspected a later Viscount Aerospace Pro and its stamped under the bottom bracket on that machine.

The Veteran-Cycle Club expects to publish a book on Viscount/Trusty soon so do keep an eye on our website.
