Will not be upgrading my 800 to the 1000, the new features they mention are ones I have zero interest in.
Garmin should sort out Garmin Connect and get it working again, they added some useless features and broke a useful one.

No real interest myself. I still log rides to Garmin Connect just really as a back up but have got so used to Strava I am quite happy to stick with it. Garmin seem to produce things without really getting them working 100%, or at least that is the way it feels judging by various comments on the forum.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Where does it all stop or end? Is it going to be like the iphone where you must have one? Personally I don't want or need any of them. All I need is to know what distance i am going or have gone and roughly the speed, which isn't very much. The cat eye is all I need and I'm happy with that. Cheap and cheerful.

Hardware looks nice, but Strava is much more widely used, and user friendly. Sorry Garmin, I'm sticking with my 800.

The sentence which seems to be veiled speech sums it up "The Edge 1000 combines the essential legacy features cyclists love from the Edge Touring and Edge 810," , just swap "love" to "hate", and we'll probably find that nothing works correctly on it like every otrher Edge they have brought out

That seems a bit of a stretch - my Edge 800 works fine most of the time.

On a side note, is it me or does that look like a capacitive touchscreen rather than resistance? I hope not as that would mean you can't use it without special gloves and it wouldn't work if any of it was wet...

.

Only most of the time? They would be better if they worked all the time. Same as my 800, it works fine most of the time, but every now and then it goes tits up so you cannot rely on it 100%. Thats why I use a Dakota 20 if navigation is a priority as opposed to just using the 800 as a cycling computer which is what most riders I know who have them use them for and never use them for navigation

You said "nothing works correctly on it like every otrher Edge they have brought out". Now you've just admitted that yours works fine most of the time. Mine very rarely doesn't work, it's only navigation where it's played up on me once.

EDIT: What would be nice would be a new cheap weather sealed phone with a big stonking battery that was weather sealed, had a similar screen to the Edge 800 and was just fast enough to run Strava and poss. some navigation. I'd buy that!

Admittedly it probably wouldn't be that cheap ;)

I bought the Edge 810 to use the OS mapping capability
I soon sent it back

The screen may be touch sensitive, but is far inferior to that of my 705

The 705 can also change screens and navigate without crashing and taking fifteen minutes to get a satellite signal and resume recording

On my first tour using the 810 I was covering 60 miles and 8 were being recorded!

Strava can get competitive, but in a good way, comparing segments against others. Join the cycle chat team on strava, it gives you good motivation to ride.
