I haven't rented a film for years. Do people still rent films? It's cheaper to wait 18 months and buy them in the sales.

I remember when Blockbuster first arrived near our place in London. It quickly put the local independent video rental shop out of business. My late brother went in there and bought up most of the stock as the shop closed down. I still have crates of 80's video films yet to watch!

I'd suggest a recuperative 80's videofest this weekend, but I know the size of the pile of stuff we'd have to move to get to them....

I've still got Local Hero if you need it.

That's a fab film, it was on telly only a couple of weeks ago. Has the distinction of having one of the few big movie mistakes in it that I spotted for myself.

And Dennis Lawson, always a good reason to watch a film.

Blockbuster has gone into administration.

Can't say that I'll miss them.
My kids like the occasional vid session when they're having a sleepover ... that's stuffed then, they'll have to watch Babestation instead ....
I'm mildly surprised because our local branch always seemed busy, but like the comment about HMV stores they always felt a bit grubby and smelly .... low rent.
@ postman, funnily enough our Blockbuster has a Denstist above it and a Chinese take-away next door!

Everyone remembers Local Hero, but does anyone else remember Restless Natives?

That was good fun.
