Hi Gang,

I often do the spelling bee, strands and attempt the "connections" after doing the daily wordle. I say attempt because the grids are generally poor and *very* amerocentric.

However for those that enjoy "only connect" style puzzles, I have now discovered PuzzGrid

These are an enormous amount of fun usually - especially if you hit the "best grids" screen. I very much recommend the grids by Hairy Grape and Liquid Ice if you like a challenge.
You can also submit your own grids - my first attempt is here:-
https://puzzgrid.com/grid/101896
Hope some of you enjoy these - why not post up links to any good ones you find, or any new grids that you decide to make.

In an expansion from the "Only Connect" format, you can change the format from 4 groups of 4 items up or down (but only if you subscribe for £4 a month). It's entirely free to play though. There is also a battle mode if you want to try puzzling head to head.

Anyway - enjoy (or not!)

They are quite addictive. The really high level ones by people like Hairy Grape have a definite cryptic crossword vibe about them in that you have to solve the clues in order to make the connections.

Slowly getting addicted to them, but I'm still pretty crap at most so far 🤦‍♂️🤣

There are some "learned" techniques. The main one is that if there is no apparent connection, it's worth looking for things like words in words, or one letter changed. Another one is that if it's been set by an American you are likely to get references that don't travel outside of America. Personally I find the picture ones the hardest, especially flags. I'm rubbish at flags.

The Hairy Grape's are the most challenging of all as they are always puzzles within puzzles.

Yes I remember when I did crosswords, you got to know how to think in a certain way. That's when it got a little bit boring as it was not so much of a challenge any more.

I didn't run out of time, but I did a stupid. So I also only got two lines. Also missed the link for one of them.
Quiz of the week is excellent. Did it with 2mins 17 seconds to spare. Tricky though!
