Isn't it funny how they trawl through all the times a cyclist has killed someone over the years. They'd have more than that in an hour on the UK roads killed by drivers.

Can't find anything noting what the sentence was in this case. I understand the maximum sentence is up to 2 years?

Presumably they didn't bother with "Dangerous Cycling" or "Cycling when under influence of drink or drugs" as neither carries a custodial sentence. Probably also the case with breaching S7 of the "The Pedal Cycles (Construction and Use) Regulations (1983)"?

No doubt, if the perpertrator was driving, the incident wouldn't be worthy of a single column inch.

Those previous offenses are may have influenced the sentence handed down, depending what they are. It might equally be the case that Wade has a serious problem with addiction or a mental health/learning need that she has not been properly supported with.

The lack of effective brakes is by itself already a crime, thanks to the Pedal Cycles Construction and Use Regulations 1983.

The top two effects of a Dangerous Cycling similar to that for driving will probably be to stop newspapers bleating about this law being from the 1800s (but they strangely never complain that the law making us drive and ride on the left is even older) and to reduce the maximum punishments.

It's just a dead cat for the media to swing around, with the dead cat which is cycling.
Never mind all the driving offences and motor vehicle related death. Those cyclists are bloody dangerous and a bloody menace and they need banning from our roads.

My comment is politcal but cycling related, the Conservatives are pledging to take action regarding death as a result of dangerous cycling:

I was just about to post the same thing. 8 months for causing an injury and yet drivers cause deaths and get away with a fine and slap on the wrist.

If the car in question was on the pavement, had no brakes and the driver was drunk
Then I would suggest that the driver would get more than a suspended sentence

The American woman who killed a motorcycle rider by driving on the wrong side of the road got 8 months, suspended for a year. The shock jock who wrote nasty emails to the BBC got five years.
Unfortunately, you don’t have to make it up.
