...or is it some people's use of it?

Personally I ferkin hate the stuff on anyone other than a road worker or emergency services - end of.

Trolly gatherers, school helpers, dog walkers, festival organizers, security bods.....the list goes on - and don't mention cyclists...

Now, what could be a more pathetically useless adoption of said clothing?

I give you........drum roll..............the British Army.

Now call me a traditionalist, but I always thought the idea of camouflage material was to REDUCE visibility?

Thats assuming it is being worn as camouflage - if it is merely their No. 8's - and they were on picket duty then the waistcoats are probably appropriate - I assume that you would be the first to complain if they shot you when driving past SMIDSY style

Straddle the line, discord and rhyme
The one cancels out the other, so in effect they're just normally visible.

You are totally off beam. Despite the low media profile, it was a major security alert. Six miles of the A1 were closed for over twelve hours as were lots of the minor roads around Leeming and Catterick. I was up there today, the weather conditions were murky and the last thing they needed to be was invisible.

As for emergency services, they were the emergency services dealing with a perceived emergency had it been the police doing the identical task they would have been wearing Hi Viz. It wasn't a pathetically useless adoption of Hi Viz it was a perfectly sensible one considering the conditions in the area. The apparent clarity of the air in the picture belies the actual weather conditions today. It might even be a stock photograph taken elsewhere.

The military are not an emergency service - try dialing 999 and asking for the SAS?
If they were dealing with it, then they would be bomb-disposal. They're not, they're squaddies on picket duty.

Hi viz does not work in fog - the water particles in the air disrupt the path of light from the material to the eye. In daylight fog, a dark shape is easier to spot than fluoro yellow.

If the roads were closed for miles around, which I am sorry to hear caused people inconvenience, then the need to be visible was negated also by the fact there were NO cars on the CLOSED roads.

I for one don't need anything or anyone to be hi-viz - I drive taking great care to watch out for others and always drive to the road/weather conditions. Always drive at a speed you can safely stop in the distance you can see to be free in front.

Or continue to victim blame and make vulnerable road users responsible for their safety and excuse bad driving.

You're letting personal prejudice get in the way of reason.

And if they were from the Royal Logistics Corps on picket duty then they would be part of the emergency services, not just squaddies on picket duty...

Vernon is right. Its a stock photo that was used.
And if you read the story you'll see that the bomb squad was called out.

I am so sorry to have wasted the public's time and money, I Always though that when we were out in one of these we were acting as a part of the emergency services....

May be a declared facility, tasked by one of the four emergency services ?
