So I've ridden a road bike for a commuter for several years and managed to get by on all bar a couple of snow days. I now ride an old MTB with Schwalbe City Jets slick tyres on it. I still have the off road tyres for the MTB somewhere so the question is would there be a noticable gain in using the off road tyres if it snows?

Bear in mind my commute is in London so we're looking at a couple of inches max and that is largely cleared by the traffic.

If it's fresh snow or slush the narrowest tyre possible is best - slicks are fine.

If it's at all icy, then studs are your friends.

Thanks

Not really enough ice in London for studs.

The problem I found on the road bike is that once you veer off the car track, the rear becomes skittish in particular. I'll see how it goes. I do have more options for working from home these days anyway.
