Anti Virus Software

I need some protection on my new 'puter and Mrs 26 does on her laptop. I'm running Windows 7 and she has Vista. Kaspersky came with a free 1 month trial on the new machine but now it's time to pay up. So what do folks think? What should I go for?

It's free and does the lot.

Another vote for Microsoft Security Essentials. It does the lot and doesn't get in the way whilst doing so

I had Kaspersky on a Windows 7 laptop and my wife did on here computer. When we ditched it and went over to Microsoft Essentials both computers seemed like new ones so noticeable was the difference in performance. Kaspersky must have been hogging too many resources.

Avast has been reported to cause problems on win7 setups; we had personal experience of this setting up my son's laptop, but it behaves itself on the desktop

Another vote for MSE. I switched a while back when my McAfee ran out, and touch wood not had any problems.

I run Avast on a Windows 7 laptop and I've no complaints. When my mother's Kapersky subscription ran out I installed the free Avast and it found a virus which Kapersky had not.

Started using MSE about 18 months ago and have switched all our personal and business machines to it now.

Three reasons for this:

1. On AVS Microsoft simply dare not get it wrong

2. It uses very few resources

3. All the commercial programmes eventually get to clever for their own good and use up massive amounts if resource. Kicked out the last one - AVG - a couple of weeks back.

We've had Kaspersky, McAfee and Norton in the past and personally the first thing I do is remove them if they come as part of a package.

Righty Ho. I've just uninstalled Kaspersky and am about to download MSE.
