Overshoes - quick tip.

Neoprene are good, but not waterproof. To make them waterproof, I shove two cut out corners of a plastic bag over each shoe (two layers stop water ingress).

Works quite well, but in heavy rain, I also use overtrousers, which stops the water running in the top of the overshoe. Mudguards help too. I rarely get soaked shoes with this combo.

This really is planning ahead ;)

I've got some DHB bib longs and at only £40, one of the best clothing purchases I've made so far. Also useful for the FNRttC.

A pair of winter gloves by Pearl Izumi. Similar to these to keep my fingers toastie. Not great at keeping them dry, but they are warm even when wet.

Long sleeve base layers of various makes.

erm....that's pretty much the only change from my summer wear.

I'll wear a windproof throughout winter and occasionally put on my long sleeve jersey.

This year I need to buy some overshoes.

My helmet used to keep my head warm enough, but I've just change from the cheapest available to a nice Rudy Project one which has lots of vents, so the buff may well end up on my head.

But if your feeling cold it's because your not cycling hard enough

being a cheapskate, buying Winter gear, at reduced prices, in Summer makes sense

it does make sense, I just got some winter w/p gloves yesterday for £12 (dhb @ wiggle)

and over the next few weeks will do what you are doing filling up now, for when the surest weather arrives

A Buff under the helmet (fnaar fnaar !)
dHb bib longs
Polaris Silicon top
HiViz vest
Altura Night Vision winter gloves
Endura Overshoes
The clear plastic lenses in my ProBikeKit cycling glasses.

That does me for my 20 mile round-trip each day during the winter. No need for base layers, jackets etc - I'm roasting hot & sweating by the time I've done the first mile.

I thought you were an ex rugger bugger? whats wrong with a t shirt, shorts and flip flops?

How will you know what size you will be at the rate you are shedding poundage?

true, it could be all change, my main concerns are with fingers and toes, that's what suffered last time. Also got to remember to keep my knees warm, have noticed they can get sore if I push hard when they're cold. But my feet got so cold that the pain didn't really hit until I was in the shower and it was pretty bad. But then I was wearing lightweight Asics running trainers and think windchill was the killer.

I just feel like taking advantage of some Summer bargains and was interested in what others felt worked.
