I used to think that, but I've been warming to him and his music in recent years. As a kid, the video to Ashes to Ashes (?) scared me, and i thought Let's Dance was pants. But then a close friend (also not a Bowie fan) ended up working with DB on a low budget film called Everybody Loves Sunshine (apparently sh!te) and said he was fine, i.e., not up himself, very approachable and seemed like a decent bloke. Regarding his music, it did nothing for me until i watched the Wes Anderson film A Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, which featured Brazillian singer Seu Jorge doing acoustic Bowie covers sung in Portuguese... hearing his songs stripped down and not being able to understand the lyrics showed them in a new light... now i quite like some of his music, thanks to Seu Jorge.

Bowie? Yes he had a bit of success in the 70s but nothing of note for 30 years.

I played them so much I think the grooves have worn off The old Dansette often required a couple of pennies on the needle to keep it down

Absolutely! When i hear the originals they just remind of the covers, hence me liking Bowie more these days. (Plus Let's Dance has gone up in my estimation too... Nile Rogers and Chic did a cracking live version of it a couple of years ago)
