Second hand slave/master cylinders could just as bad as the one pulled off the car.Try Eurocarparts or German & Swedish motorfactors, they may be far cheaper to buy the part than main dealer, but try main dealer aswell, sometimes they can be cheaper which shocks many people i deal with.

I would definitely get a second hand one but I've always been a cheapskate. I would expect a complete car for £120....
£120 !!!!! I bought a car for £40 once, ran it for a year, scrapped the body after selling all the engine, gearbox, wheels ect for well over what i paid for the whole car...oh those were the days !

I remember when you could buy rebuild kits for things like this but now we live in a throwaway society:angry:

I don't see anything wrong with buying a second hand cylinder. Look around the breaker's yard, find a similar car which has clearly been rammed up the back by a forty ton lorry and it's reasonable to assume it wasn't taken of the road with a clutch problem.

For all the people who object to fitting second hand parts to a car, consider that when you buy a second hand car, all parts on it are second hand.

Right, of course that's fine with a newish low-mileage car but not an old banger.

My Landy was mostly built of second-hand parts. I got a superb 11,000 mile transfer box out of a drowned water board Defender for a fraction of the new price. It was fine once I had drained the stinky oil/water emulsion out of it and run it around the block three times filled with three changes of cheap engine oil to flush it out. Only the engine, chassis and bulkhead were original, the vehicle had done 225,000 miles with the RAF and had been rebuilt countless times with new and salvaged parts, we got the service record and it was 27 pages of detail on all the bits fitted and repairs carried out.

Hope you got it fixed ok BigonaBianchi, I'm a tech for BMW, a clutch slave cyl is approx 1 hour to fit and bleed out and £30 is cheap for the part so sounds like you got a good deal.

Could you see fluid leaking from the bottom of the gearbox bell housing? if it happens again check the clutch master cyl down on the floor under the carpet under the clutch pedal and look for signs of fluid leaking, it usually stains the carpet a bit.
cheers
Steve
