I am desperate.

I cannot get the machine to stop rerouting my uploaded course. It keeps trying to take me the quickest route to the finish point.

I've been through every menu, and still it does it.

Can anyone help?

Turn auto reroute off. Not sure where it is on the 810.

I have done - doesn't help.

I have no idea what to do now. I go out, the very first turn it tells me to take is the opposite to my route. After I take that, it gets confused and the course I'm following seems to be disregarded.

Also, the course I mapped is completely different to the one on the machine.

I don't think I've come across such an expensive piece of rubbish ever before

Is the route you've plotted a return trip or just the outward leg?
I've had trouble with circular routes before so try to plot the there and back separately now.

I need the machine for a long ride in the next couple of weeks.

I plotted map around the block to test it, but it's not circular. It started trying to take me straight to the end instead of following my course. I've changed so many things on it now, I have no idea what the right settings are.

Every setting I have changed has not stopped it directing me the wrong way at the first turn.

Okay, I have reset to factory settings, so if anyone can tell me the things I need to change for it to navigate me on a route I'd really appreciate it.

Just read the whole thing - nothing.

So frustrating. How can such an expensive bit of kit be so useless?

There's a great 800 overview in the "know how" section. Don't think there is very much difference between 800 and 810

I can't help with your specific problem but if its any consolation you're not the only one to have difficulties. The 800 I had was useless, incapable of remembering my country let alone location, used to re-route me on to the nearest motorway and several other stupid issues.

After 10 days of frustration I took it back to Evans and got a full refund. I was very disappointed at the time. I'd spent weeks agonising over my decision to spend so much money on this. For me it was really a vanity, bit of fun, purchase as it doesn't impact one's riding ability. Something I wanted but didn't need at all but eventually justified to myself!!

As I recall the tech support was non-existent and the website pretty flakey and constantly threw me out. Overall a very poor experience.

I fully appreciate many, many users have a great experience with Garmin. Mine is the opposite, such an expensive item should work out of the box after charging and basic set up.

I'd never buy a product from Garmin.

Whilst the user interface is not the most intuitive, and initial set up is a bit frustrating, I have had no issues with my 800. One of my favorite gadgets. Would not want to be without it.

Unfortunately the menu options are different from the 800 to the 810.

Saturday's ride revealed one of the big problems, which I have now corrected, where it was trying to avoid main roads.

However, on yesterday's ride it is still trying to divert me off course from time to time, onto little back roads or even canal paths.

I just don't know why it can't follow the course it's been set without having to try and divert me.

I had this prob with my 800 this was the reason why it might also be your reason with the 810

On your courses page, please mention that you need to press the 'Turn Guidance' from off to on as the default is off, and that once you start the route theres no option to have guidance.

hi dodd82...try these guys very helpful i am a 800 user so cant help but that was a struggle to understand
