I'm not normally a fair-weather rider but it almost seemed like god himself didn't want us to ride this weekend; so its been put off. However judging by the rush-planning this is probably a good thing.
Yeah I checked out the site but other than the instructions, the map isn't very detailed. I'd rather have something a bit more visual, as I've heard maps are advised due to the easy ability to get lost on the trail. Doesn't matter now though as I still have a fortnight at least to get one! Thanks all the same. Surprising there aren't any replies to this thread from cardiff's cyclists, as I know there are quite a few!

If I was forced at gunpoint to pick a direction I would say Cardiff to Brecon is easier. Not much in it though

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but as a newbie I automatically thought that Brecon to Cardiff would be easier /would involve more descending as Cardiff is down at sea level? Dont know how long it will take me to get fit enough but my goal is to do the whole length one way or the other.

You make a very good point and re-reading my previous answer I am now puzzled as to why I said that. I also plan to do the whole route non stop one day, possibly as a charity ride.

towards the end of the summer,if I can get fit enough by then im thinking of taking the special Cardiff to Brecon "Beacons Bus" with bike trailer.I think it only runs on a sunday during summer months.

Could you tell me some more details about this .. and how many bikes can it take in any one journey, and is it very well used, do you have to book a place... oh so many questions.

I live in pontllanfraith my usual run is up the trails to merthyr a 30 mile round trip.Building up my mileage to get me to brecon once I can fathom the route thro merthyr to cefn coed.
