Thanks again, although my knowledge of electrical work is limited I can assure you the power always goes off!

The day before Christmas Eve last year, NT and I arrived at Mum's for the festive season. Shortly afterwards, while Mum wrapped presents downstairs, the bathroom lightpull cord came off in NT's hand when the switch broke.

Cue rising panic in Mum, envisoning trying to find an electrician on Christmas Eve, the cost of the same, or trying to light the bathroom with a lamp on an extension cord trailing across the hall for three or four days, in a house with 6 additional guests...

Cue NT simply asking where the nearest DIY place was, driving there, buying a new switch, and fitting it, without recourse to turning the power off.

I was on tenterhooks, but apparently its alright if you're an expert!

I think it was at that point that Mum wanted to adopt NT!
