They want us to scrap a perfectly good 5 year old boiler, saying the law says you have to buy a new condensing one instead of moving it 5 yards across the room. That sounds insane to me. All the info I can find says you can't replace an old-style combi with a non-condensing version....but does it follow that you can't simply relocate one by a few yards?

would they be British gas or another big operator ?? no need at all as it is NOT a new install. I just asked our Part L consultant on site. he says relocating it could cause problems further down the line thats why he thinks they are saying have a new one. but legally as it is not a new installation there is no need.
