Any Karate ninjas out there?

My 7 year old goes to Karate once a week. She enjoys it, but i am getting the sneaking suspicion that this whole set up, the association, etc is a one man band, or a splinter from the mainstream?

I'm in no position to make a comment on the particular association you mention, but when I trained in various styles through my teens and early twenties, rifts and splinter associations were rife. It's not necessarily a bad thing, as long as whoever you train with has some sort of accreditation and insurance.

Back in my day this sort of thing was managed by the Martial Arts Commission, but I think it rests with the Sports Council these days. Or the buck may have been passed again. Happy to be corrected by someone with up-to-date knowledge.

Of course, this side of things should be considered in addition to any assessment of the actual training offered. I'd avoid anyone on a "macho" kick, or who didn't adhere to sensible practice, like not bouncing in stretches.

The website says it was formed in 1991 and with 20 clubs. My boy is a member of a local club under the EKKA name which has about the same number of clubs.

If she is enjoying it then I don't see it as a bad thing and any exercise and discipline has got to be a good thing.
