Prepare a way for the Lord

I'm looking to replace my kitchen sink and the specifications for the new sink I'm interested in quote a minimum base size of 600mm. Does 600mm refer to the overall external width of the base unit? Or the internal width, which is about 560mm?
Also, the "front to back" dimension of my existing sink is 510mm with a cut out size of 490mm, while the new sink has a "front to back" dimension of 500mm with a cut out size of 480mm, just wondering if this is likely to cause any problems.
Many thanks.

The way I read that..
I always thought the size quoted (in this case 600mm) was the external dimension. Never heard of them do it any other way.

You'll need a new worktop on the grounds the cut out is smaller...but I expect you knew that. .

600 is the standard external width of most units. I assume you aren't replacing the worktop.

Well...you may not need a new worktop. Front to back is 5mm smaller each end so you just might just get away with it . All depends on the shape and fit of the new sink in the old hole.

Pretty much covered already TBH. 600mm is the external width of the unit, just measure the door if you want to check it'll be about 595mm, that's a 600mm base and your sink will fit left to right. Very doubtful you'll need to replace the worktop, 5mm front and back should be fine, with a bit of shuffling and as slick says the holding brackets and a nice bead of silicone will stop it going anywhere.
Saying that there's an awful lot of sinks out there and you'll almost certainly find one that's pretty much identical to the dimensions of the one you've already got if you have a little look around :okay:
Edit: worth noting of course that the cutout fitting the new sink does assume that it wasn't cut too big or a bit wobbly to start with, it's not unknown!!

Oh and the joys of fitting the new taps when you realise sinks are often put in before the under sink units. Lots of swearing as you try to fit into the space under the sink.

Fit the tap to the sink before you put it in. They have tails which you then connect onto the maIn pipework, even easier if they're flexi's

I fitted mine earlier this year. Fairly straightforward though I had to slightly widen the cutout on the worktop as the basin was a tad larger than the old unit. I didn't use the brackets as there was not enough meat to clamp them to, I just applied a bead of silicone all round the edge.
