Brandane
The Costa Clyde rain magnet.
It's a small world, so thought I might ask - the Merchant Navy was once a big community, but alas like most other things British, it is a pale shadow of its former self.
My discharge book (which I still have) shows me as a Deck Cadet 1978-1981 (so obviously failed before even sitting my second mates ticket
). Stratheden (Sept 78 to March 79); Wild Marlin (April 79 to July 79); Glasgow Nautical College August 79 to January 80; Taupo (Feb 80 to June 80); Ardmore (Aug 80 to March 81).
All the above ships have long since passed into the ownership of foreign flagged companies and been scrapped. Even the College is in the process of being demolished. It was quite modern when I was there. I am beginning to feel just a little bit old
.
The Stratheden, of which I have great memories as a 16 year old boy doing a six month voyage on the Gulf/Japan run. Good times
