Just dont need that size now.........economy taken into account as well.
If I were you I would go for comfort and a Turbo Diesel mid range Ghia type model car. I hate driving my wife's Fiesta, not because I am a car snob it just feels horrible to drive tinny no substance and gutless. I would rather an old top of the range mid to large car than a new small and bottom of the range one.

How about summat like a Fucus estate? A bit bigger and more practical than the hatch, not quite as big an unwieldy as a Mundano?

I think we need to know why you want a car bigger than the Astra - is it to carry objects, or because you have long legs or broad shoulders, or carry passengers who get squashed, or because you prefer the 'feel' of a larger car?

Most MPVs are (roughly) mid-sized cars with big bodies on them, e.g. the Zafira is basically a big Astra, and the C-Max and S-Max are a big Focus/Mondeo. They might do if you want the pure space, but if you want it to feel a bit more 'premium' then I'm struggling a bit - the Lexus IS and Alfa 156 were smallish but nice-ish cars, but all cars seem to be behemoths now.

A new astra is so much larger than an old model. Today's corsa is kind of similar ins size to yesterday's astra.

I saw a new 2015 astra parked up and although there was no Mondeo parked near by, it seemed pretty huge to me.

If I could afford it I would get an E Type Jag. Way less practical than anything else mentioned here but those lines, that engine, and of course it would have to be British Racing Green.

Actually to answer the OP have you considered an X Type Jaguar?
Well equipped, decent size which I would put between an Astra and a Mondeo, you get a saloon or if you need the capacity you can get an estate, plenty of go particularly above the 2.0 engine.

A mate had one of the 3.0 V6 estates - would return 45 - 50 mpg on a run if you weren't driving in licence losing territory.

Prices are not eye watering for a decent one either.

I'll +1 the C-Max, and yes it is a bit bigger than the Focus, all round. We ummd & ahhd about getting one until the local dealer let us try one in our garage. Must admit I'm delighted with it and the 3 cylinder 125bhp engine is at least a match for the Focus 1600.

+1 for the Octavia. I've got a 63 hatch, and can get the bike in the boot (rear seats down) with wheels on. Feels substantial as well.
Not driven an Octavia, but that doesn't really make it sound 'a bit bigger than an Astra' or alternatively not as big as a Mondeo - not a criticism of the Octavia at all. Which generation makes a difference too. Had a new Mondeo hire car recently - thing was huge.
What does OP want it to do in it or carry? Hatchback, estate, saloon, MPV?
