Any RC helicopter experts here?

I do have an MSRX as well, but I need a bigger house! It was too much of a step up from a mCX2 for me, hence the V911. Plus the V911 with extra batteries and a handful of spares (only ever had to change a balance bar after a mate tried flying it) costless from China than a Blade heli.

Seems the MSRX has disappeared from the Blade website frontpage. No small intermediate helis there at all now. Seems a big jump from a mCX2 to a Nano to me.

I had an MSRX! Bloody evil, dangerous spiteful little thing that was. Longest flight I ever recorded without smashing it was around 3 seconds. Bloody thing...
Did actually get the Phoenix simulator as I lusted after a Trex 450, but didn't manage to land anything on there either (although the gas turbine Apache was fun to fly around until it crashed, which took about 15 seconds)
No, don't have the patience for heli's, but am sorely tempted by a quad!

When I first got my Nano it was a bit of a handful so I got an MSRX, they are a good heli but once you go from that to the Nano you realize that because the MSRX is a Fixed-Pitch heli it is very slow to respond in comparison so I sold mine after about a month.

I found the best way to get used to a heli like the Nano is to take it to a big field then if you get into difficulty just get it high in the air while you get it sorted out, the Nano will be across your living room before you even realize it has taken off if your not used to it. The main thing I like about all these micro helis and quads is that if you bin it, and you will bin it, you dont have a big bill. Oh yes and if you catch anything in the blades you dont end up needing major surgery is also a bonus.

Essential extra for flying in the living room - a sheet. Drape it over the that big expensive, easy to scratch with whirly blades TV screen

My lad has the largest Syma, an S33 after having the little mini one. He paid about £50 for the big one, it's over two foot long.

It flies really well (if you can fly the micro ones). I can't fly it, but he can. You can just about get every part for it. We have spare rotors, but not needed them yet.

To be honest I like the quad but it isnt really much of a challenge I find it extremely easy to fly when compared to a collective pitch heli, it is ok to play with but it doesn't beat a heli.

Many, many thanks for all your replies and all the lovely heli pics and even a bonus video!! You've given me plenty to think about, my initial thoughts are that it may be worth starting a little lower down the food chain, maybe something like the Parrot A.R. 2.0, I'm sure she'll be over the moon with something like the FC40 but if she didn't take to it then I simply can't imagine who would fly it instead () I has also been reading about fly aways, although they appear rare the thought of £500 disappearing out to sea is not a pretty one.
I have also had a reply from @ushills friend which I need to mull over too, my initial thoughts on the products he makes are that I think they look amazing, whether my daughter would think so......well actually she might. As products they do seem incredibly well engineered and from the videos I've watched they're a real enthusiasts bit of kit. I think, as I said I need to mull things over and work things out, that the outlay including a camera would be similar to the FC40 but I'm sure I'd be getting a better product which can grow with her if she starts to get really interested.
So once again, thank you all for your input, please feel free to throw more things into the mix

I wouldn't worry to much about losing an aircraft think more a long the lines of the cost of crashing, I had a play with my new £30 quad last night & bounced it of a couple of walls and it did no damage at all I mean to the quad not the wall

I understand your point entierely, it's not so much a worry, I believe they're incredibly rare it's just the thought of it. Whilst I certainly wouldn't be happy standing in a field with a couple of handfuls of plastic, for me the feeling of hopelessness you must have as you frantically push every button and waggle every lever as your heli races over the horizon and back home to China, well that sends a shiver down my spine

Dont worry about it once it gets out of range it will usually just fall out of the sky but I do understand your point. I bought myself an RC spitfire last xmas and it is still in its box as I have similar reservations about flying it, I have never flown an RC plane before ( only in Phoenix simulator ) and can just imagine me not been able to turn it round as it goes off into the distance
