I know zip about freshwater other than feed and top up from the tap lol... I'm sure coloured gravel will not hinder the fishes sleeping pattern tho.. Live rock is a saltwater thing, without being in a marine environment it would just be 'rock' as all the living organisms would die off..I'm going to be setting up a cold fresh water community soon. Never done it before, I'm really looking forward to it doing it. We have decided on a cold water set up as we really can't justify spending the amount of money mentioned on previous threads on energy costs.
I remember as a kid winning a fish and just dumping it in a little bowl, now reading into it there is a lot to do before putting fish into a tank.
I'm hoping to get zebra danios for my first fish then build up from there, it all depends on the what size our ebay tank is. We got it for £21, they wanted £150 for it on buy it now.
Some of the set ups in the pet shop have brightly coloured gravel, does anyone know if it has an affect on fish being able to sleep at night? I was considering to get some as the bottom feeding fish I'm planning to get seem more visible. I'm also looking to get some live plants and possibly live rock but have a feeling that you can only get live rock for salt water set ups?
Anyway I'm so excited about it all, it's becoming a bit of an obsession.

Yep that was my thought's about living rock. Maybe one day when I have more money than now and we have a bigger house, I can look at creating a salt water community, but until then I'm happy with sticking to fresh water.![]()
I started with fresh water and they are lower maintenance for sure, but never be scared of the salty side, it's easier than you think lol... Just pricey to start![]()
Cool me to... Not as old skool as you tho lol.. Any updates? Those sps frags must be awesome by now? Nice looking setup![]()
Thank you, likewise![]()
Sadly I've been plagued with problems over the last couple of Years and lost most of the SPS.
I'm just in the process of a major revamp at the moment, it's either that or get rid of it and I'm not ready for that quite yet.
