A rescue diver has now died.
What a terrible tragedy.

Did my PADI open water dive course in the Maldives on 1999; horrible to read about the Italian cave divers.
I do remember slightly lax safety standards, our mixed group experienced some strong currents on one dive, it swept us along the reef and into a down draft over a drop off; we went below our planned depth and slightly below our maximum limit on our qualification before we got back to safety.
Not that it felt dangerous... But i suppose that's the red flag, right there!
As for cave diving at sea?.. No; it's bad enough on land going down Swildon's Hole.

Best diving trip was to Sharm: the reefs near Tiran island, and Ras Mohamed marine park. Awesome experiences... But then had children so holidays have been a bit tamer ever since. Maybe will go back soon!
I have had 3 separate weeks diving around Sharm then i had a week with a buddy in a new area..... just 1 hotel with 1 dive club. As we were both well qualified they took the 2 of us up for a drift dive. We dropped to iirc 25 metres then drifted for 40 minutes at 15-20 metres. We were the only people in the world.....it was wonderful.
After the 40. Minutes we sent our smb up and there was the boat to collect us.
Best dive I ever did.

A memorable one for me was on the Zenobia wreck off Cyprus. The Ro-Ro ferry was on its side at the bottom, with all sorts of vehicles still attached. There were several areas where you could swim inside a little, quite scary that one as I recall.

Sad news of the recovery diver.

It is very sad.

Anyone done the Thisttlegorm off Sharm. That's an amazing wreck.
