After some looking, I found the section of the website that refers to becoming a ride leader. Looks like I will need to wait till there is a training session in london

I did the Level 1 SKY Ride Leader's course a couple of months ago.

I've volunteered to lead a number of rides but haven't been selected to lead any as yet.

Poor Scoosh(ie) :hugs:, I've applied for 4 and have been on 2 already, with one more to come mid-October. Maybe they are short of female ASLs? Otherwise it would seem very strange that they are dishing out rides so unevenly ...

You could always just sign up to one as a rider and keep the ride leaders company if nobody turns up ... which is what happened at ride #1.
There we were, 3 ride leaders assembled outside Meadowbank Stadium, on a dull cloudy day (there had been a bit of a drizzle earlier), and not a soul turned up, apart from the daughter of the chief leader... So we had a nice chat and headed off again.
My ride #2 was the same afternoon, with two dads and their sons signed up. All four turned up, and it was good fun ambling along the Innocent Railway path, mostly traffic free, and chatting about cycling. It ended up being the longest ride ever for the youngest participant, at >15 km. :bravo:Needless to say, he was very pleased with himself.
Very curious who will turn up for #3 :bicycle:

I've attended a one day ride leader's course - going to do a longer 4 day one in October, organized by the "a better way to work" people.
Don't know if it's only a Glasgow thing, the training is free if your employer participates in the scheme and better way to work has had an event in your workplace.
In our group, I usually lead beginners rides
Paperwork is minimal, basic checks of the bikes is recommended before starting - I always carry my mini track "super" pump plus tools suitable for several bikes on these rides.
You really need to do the route first yourself to be able to classify it as suitable.
Tip: if you lead a ride, spend the first few miles assessing your group.
Sometimes people overestimate their abilities, then accuse you of wrongly describing hard rides as easy!
This happened to 2 ride leaders I know.

Don't forget to include the travel to and from your rides and the actual ride on your tax return. I chopped over £100 off my tax by doing that.
