Never been either.....and now that I am living on a miniscule pension I won't be going anytime soon. Lol. To be honest, it doesn't bother me as I am a definite home bird anyway plus having pets that I am too soppy to consider putting in kennels/cattery.

Furthest afield I have been is Cornwall and North Wales
I can say that it hasn't bothered me either. When I happen to mention it though people look at me with a sort of pity as if I've been deprived. If I wanted to go that much then I'd go. I just haven't had the inclination. It seems we are fairly rare.

I was teasing an American friend about the fact that more than half of Americans don't have a passport. He pointed out that a Londoner can get on a plane for 45 minutes and be in another country, some Americans can fly for six hours and still be in the same one.

(64 countries to date here, so can't contribute much else to the thread.)

I've not got a passport, and never felt the need to go abroad.
Strangely the biggest problem I face by not having a passport, is proving who I am to anybody.
changed the quote a bit.
this is me & along with @Cyclopathic have never been on a plane either, for me it is an absolute irrational incomprehension of how planes don't all drop out of the sky
I have a a wife that won't do tunnels and a child that gets sick on the park lake pedelos so until one of us cracks the hoodoo we're island bound.

I've yet to have a holiday I didn't enjoy in this country tho.

I know someone who has never been abroad and goes to the same UK holiday destination every year. It is the little known place called Benidorm.

No shame there @shouldbeinbed .

A very famous Arsenal player had to be excused his F.A Div 1/Prem duties to allow him travel across Europe by boat due to his fear of flying.

He was still a great footballer despite this & being a Gooner.
Bergkamp wasn't it. I heard he'd flown in some really bad turbulence and it had been enough to put him off flying again.

I've no idea why my brain can't comprehend a hundred tons of metal in the air but doesn't have a problem with way more than that sitting on top of water.

I used to work for a company in Staffordshire that was out in the countryside and pulled a lot of its workforce in from the local villages.

I needed a QC guy to go with me to check some stuff in China so I requested that the QC Manager accompany me. He was about 50, middle manager. Turned out he didn't have a passport, never been outside UK. He was happy holidaying in the UK and lived in an area that was very rural and quite untouched by modern life.

So his first ever trip outside UK was 2 weeks to China, once we got his passport sorted
In a similar vein, a guy I work with, retirement age although hes worked on one extra year, widower, took to internet correspondence with a Malaysian woman. Things grew and she was trying to get over here, something went wrong..'.thats it, I'm going over to sort it ' he said, but this would be his first ever trip abroad.
Retirement age and his first trip was half way round the world.
Hes married her now, He's going out there to live soon..and can't wait .

At 42, the wife and i had never been abroad. I really wanted it, the wife didnt, scared of flying. Badgered her into it, a trip to Crete to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Never been able to stop her going abroad since, she's addicted.

Think my brother, who's a Lincolnshire farm manager, has only been out of the UK once, and he's never been to Scotland.......

I'm trying to give it up after a spinal injury. If I never get on a plane again it will suit me just fine. I feel sorry for Fab Foodie - he gets everywhere!

Dead on @shouldbeinbed Dennis Bergkamp it is.

Very talented & probably not bothered that he can't fly at all.

Out of interest - (and I probably should have taken more notice) can you do water ?

May be a bit of a challenge/goal to sail & do tour de France (in France not Yorkshire) or whatever 'floats your boat' pardon the pun.

Still, if your happy with Blighty your happy & that's good enough for anyone.

Edit.

Re-read your post.

Little one/pedalo thing.

There are some truly beautiful parts of Britain so no loss.

Maybe we could have a beautiful Britain thread with recommendations from those in the know.

This sort of stuff is a bit weird. SWMBO travelled extensively in her twenties, she lived in Japan, travelled the far east and the americas. After a bad experience in Japan and on her way back after an overnight stop in Pakistan, she has been petrified of flying ever since. She will do short haul flights to Europe (with tranquilisers) but long haul are a no no. A cousin of mine has never been on a plane, she is so scared she faints at the sight of one landing or taking off.
