This wee chap has shown up in the garden. When he tries to move he sways and wobbles a lot. Put some cat food down and a box for shelter. What else should I do?

Hedgehogs shouldn't normally be out in daytime - check with your local wildlife hospital or vet for advice.

Whatever you do, don't give him milk to drink, it poisons them: just water.

He's in a box waiting for Emma from the local SSPCA to come round. Mrs S thinks he's injured but I think he's sick. Gave him a bit of cat food and he was nibbling on that.

I've a feeling he's the one that's been keeping my slug infestation down this year.

I think you wrap them in clay before putting them on the fire, that way it pulls the spines out for you when it's cooked.

SSPCA reckoned he was quite big and probably quite old. Shereckoned he was a bit whiffy and perhaps had some kind of infection but looked physically ok. That's him away with her now.


I'm a big softie when it comes to animals.

I reckon it's a former racing hog that's been abandoned by a heartless owner when it ceased to win races. It's staggering because it's gone on the drink as a result.

Put it on a Hedgehogs Anonymous Programme.

If they're out in the daytime they're ill and need help, so you did the right thing.

I have a couple of different ones that visit just after sun down, they eat at the back lawn for a bit and leave me little tiny poos to discover.
