Does it restrict your breathing?

The doc told me that my asthma is triggered by breathing in cold damp sea air on rides, so Im trying to figure out a way to ride here and breath in warm dryer air..all I can think of is a mask.

Thing is they look so dam aggressive

Been tempted to try one but experience says I won't like. One tip is to take it real gentle on the first x number of miles. My breathing can become fine after a while/long while.

Think of it as breathing training, something more needed when prone to inflammation.

When I started walking up the local hills in the winter, after my serious lung problems, I struggled with the cold air to the extent that I could taste blood! I found that pulling my CycleChat buff up over my mouth and nose warmed the air enough to fix the problem.

I would have thought a mask would make it more damp? Wouldn't fancy it much myself cannot even bear a buff over my mouth in the depths of winter. Strange really as sea air with the salt is normally a benefit for the lungs, although not sure about asthma.

no... but it's getting to that time of year where my route to work is peppered with clouds of midges... so i often consider wearing one, but it's easier to just keep my mouth shut.

I gave it a go for a week and hated it, damp air, not enough getting through when I was really pushing and as a glasses wearer, an absulute pain to keep demisted when stopped or going slowly. I use a buff as face warmer in the winter, it does seem to help take the edge off the air too, I think your epiphany moment will hold & you should be fine in that:thumbsup:

I understand what your saying about cold damp air and everything.
But I find the worse being the fumes from the cars and bikes as I ride
I can feel my chest tighten each morning I ride to work
there must be some kind of filter, that isnt as thick as a mask

Also an asthmatic, I wear a motorcyclists' balaclava in winter and buff in the in-between seasons. Only in summer do I breathe without filter.

You aren't riding fast enough, ride faster, then you will be breathing through your arse and your asthma will be fine!
