Anyone else had their flu jab yet?

You do know a flu jab isn't a live virus accy.
It can make you feel a little unwell sometimes but there a good way to help stave of a nasty bout of flu.

I'm sorry @Accy cyclist, I'm with @User on this one. The information you're giving is incorrect. Whether that's deliberate on your part or whether its simply that you've misunderstood something said to you a long time ago and now take it gospel I'm not sure but please stop sharing it. What you chose to believe and act on for yourself is up to you but stop confusing an important healthcare message with your own uninformed opinions.

Why is giving my opinion "trolling"? I base my opinion on when i had the old big C. My oncologist said i had a very good immune system. He advised against me having a flu jab as "it could weaken my immune system because it encourages your strong immune system to become lazy,as it doesn't have to work so hard".

If your oncologist wrote that in a biology GCSE exam he'd get a big red line through it

You always know someone in the know don't you. Ok. I'll just tell you from my experience. The oncologist said to me that i didn't need a flu jab when i was having 27 doses of radiation and 7 of chemo'.. They didn't give me a flu jab. I've never had one or been advised to have one and guess what? I've never had flu. Infact i've only been i'll in the last ten years since my treatment once and that was last November. The doctor said it was probably due to a side effect from the strong antibiotics i was taking,after hip surgery.

Live attenuated flu vaccines are still used in the UK for children (the nasal spray vaccine). But it was only licensed in the EU/UK in 2010 (it had been used elsewhere for a number of years)...

Must be my memory, I seem to recall it knocking around 2000 when I was in Manchester...

Maybe the Doc was cautioning against live virus flu vaccines which were about 10 years ago (dropped more recently) They were not recommended for people who had chemo etc?

That could be it? I seriously do not know why i wasn't given or offered one. I have never had flu in my life. I put this down to having a strong immune system and maybe a bit of luck? I'm not a taker of medicines that are supposed to ward off illnesses. I don't take vitamin supplements or anything like that. The only supplement i take is Adcal - D3 for my calcium levels.

If memory serves me right I think the only vaccine you can have during active cancer treatment is the flu vaccine by injection....

And that's fine. No one is trying to force you to have a 'flu vaccine. They just want you to stop saying that your oncologist told you cancer patients shouldn't have them. That's not true and may stop someone who needs a flu vaccine from getting one.

Fluenz Tetra (known as Flumist in the US) was licensed in the EU/UK in 2010 but only rolled out in 2013.

Apparently, I can get a free pneumonia jab as well, but not at the same time..

I had my first free flu jab last week administered by the practice nurse, she asked if I would like a pneumonia jab as well, so I had a a flu jab in one arm and the pneumonia jab in the other.

The first question she asked was " are you allergic to eggs" I thought I was getting a sandwich.

Slightly off topic but still about vaccines; I would suggest those with teenage boys look into getting them vaccinated against HPV..... Google Gardasil

Well that definitely wasn't my intention. Again i must stress that the oncologist and the surgeon who did my operation did not advise a flu jab. I appreciate that we aren't all the same and doctors will judge each individual case and not say "No flu jabs for cancer patients,end of". I'm just telling it from my experience. If they offered me one tomorrow i wouldn't take them up on the offer as i believe that having chemicals injected into you as a precaution is taking a gamble. Again..that's my opinion and i'm not trying to influence what others do. I've found quite a bit of stuff advising against flu jabs,online,but i wont link them.

If you have had full blown flu, you will never again confuse the two.

I've had flu twice and each time it was a deeply unpleasant exerience... sky high temp, sweats, shivers and shakes, headache, zero appetite, legs like jelly, getting out of bed to go to the loo is a major project and it begins to ease after 10 days...

3 times here, the only benefit from having flu is the weight you lose. Put against the downsides I would rather diet to lose it.

I had my flu jab nine days ago.Seven days ago I started sneezing,runny nose and eyes and painful sinuses,
this wasn’t a cold eg loads of thick green snot if you will pardon the expression.The symptoms have just about
cleared up
I am not suggesting this is a possible side effect of the flu jab,probably just coincidence.

I rember in the late 1940 the whole family catching flu.Not a an experience I would want to repeat.

Despite my recent problem if you are eligible for the flu jab have it.
