While I think there are benefits of having the flu jab to people in vulnerable categories - the elderly, or those suffering from respiratory diseases, immune deficiencies etc - I think some people have it unnecessarily.
I've been offered it as I have asthma - or atleast the GP tells me I do. I did have asthma when I was pregnant in 2002. And then I didn't have it again until I had bronchitis a couple of years ago. I'm allergic to dust and sometimes that makes me feel a bit asthma -ey but the doctor doesn't know that so I'm not sure why they're so insistant but that's doctors for you.
I don't see the benefit of having it for me personally, and I hate needles, so I don't take them up on their offer. I've had flu probably three or four times and survived, I think I'll be alright.

A number of years ago I got pertussis - aka whooping cough - despite having had the childhood jab.

My GP explained that the jab works for about 10 years, after which herd immunity provides protection, but that in the wake of the MMR scandal the had been a drop in ALL childhood vaccinations, with the result that there was a pool of infection in the general population and I had been unlucky to cross it's path.

I woder if that is the source of my now "weak chest" and need for lifetime antibiotics.

From my experience that's about right - I was warned by a nursing friend to expect it to take a long time and she was spot on.

I'm quite happy to shout down anyone posting Antivac bullshit.
